Abstract
Use plays a crucial role in technology innovation, diffusion and transitions. This is especially so with the increasing innovation in IoTs, AI, robotics and platform-based technologies among other technologies that enable seamless interaction between innovators and users. Yet relatively little is known about the role of use in technology innovation and transitions. This developmental paper seeks to explore the role of use in sustainable innovation and technology transitions. It is expected that this will have significant theoretical and managerial implications for addressing the dark-side of innovation in contexts where the noxious consequences of innovation for society and the environment involve end-user behaviours and waste disposal of innovations.
