<jats:sec><jats:title>Objectives</jats:title><jats:p>The aim of this retrospective study was to quantify the level of dental developmental delay in a group of patients with <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">A</jats:styled-content>perts syndrome when compared to matched controls.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Methods</jats:title><jats:p>Twenty‐six <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">D</jats:styled-content>ental <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">P</jats:styled-content>anoramic <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">T</jats:styled-content>omographic (<jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">DPT</jats:styled-content>) radiographs of patients with <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">A</jats:styled-content>pert syndrome attending <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">G</jats:styled-content>reat <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">O</jats:styled-content>rmond <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">S</jats:styled-content>treet <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">H</jats:styled-content>ospital were compared to controls (<jats:italic>n</jats:italic> = 29) from the <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">E</jats:styled-content>astman <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">D</jats:styled-content>ental <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">H</jats:styled-content>ospital, <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">UK</jats:styled-content>. Dental development was assessed using the staging systems of <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">D</jats:styled-content>emirjian and <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">H</jats:styled-content>aavikko, and dental age (DA) was estimated using the weighted averages method.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Results</jats:title><jats:p>Dental age, as estimated using the 12 stages of <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">H</jats:styled-content>aavikko and eight stages of <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">D</jats:styled-content>emirjian, suggested no statistical evidence of developmental delay between the <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">A</jats:styled-content>perts and control group.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Conclusions</jats:title><jats:p>The hypothesis ‘that there is no difference in the dental development of subjects with <jats:styled-content style="fixed-case">A</jats:styled-content>pert syndrome, when compared to a group of matched controls’, was accepted.</jats:p></jats:sec>
