The Contemporary Oral Heritage Resource features research project contributions from the School of Law, Criminology and Government undertaken by ISPER’s #CHITCHAT Research Initiative.

The collection comprises audio recorded and transcribed interviews and group discussion conducted by staff and students on themes related to policing and the criminal justice process in the south west. These include two sets of individual oral interviews, one with retired magistrates from North Devon and the other with retired police officers from Devon and Cornwall Police, to capture their experiences, anecdotes and memories to enhance our understanding of their professional roles during the last half century. The collection also features a series of Witness Seminars conducted in association with Kings College London whereby key events, themes or issues in recent history are revisited through the recollections of those who were closely involved in or at present at such occasions.
