DYNAMICS OF A SMALL-SCALE OCEANIC FRONT UNDER WIND ACTION
Abstract
An unsteady model of the dynamics of a small-scale front in a two-layer stratified viscous fluid is proposed. An equation describing the evolution of a frontal surface is derived. An analogy is noted between the motion of an oceanic front under the action of wind and the propagation of a shock wave in a viscous gas. For a number of specific cases analytical solutions are obtained which determine the shape and slope of the frontal surface and the circulation of the fluid in the frontal zone.
