Abstract
The use of molecular gas addition as volatilisation aids in slurry nebulisation inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (SN-ICP-AES) has been investigated using a combination of rigorous optimisation strategies and spectrochemical measurements. Three gases were studied, nitrogen, hexafluorethane (Freon 116) and hydrogen. Nitrogen addition did not appear to offer any benefits in terms of improved accuracy of SN-ICP-AES, whilst the introduction of Freon 116 was notable for some unusual plasma chemistry.
