Abstract
The Part Three report identifies the role and opportunity for application of the Natural Capital Asset and Risk Register evidence, provided in Reports Part One and Two, in appraisal of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) options within Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM). Interventions applying NbS aim to increase extent and condition of specific habitat assets (ecosystem assets), therefore, considerable environmental benefits, as well as relevant cross-policy objectives are met when NbS are considered as an option. As such, the linked contribution to ecosystem services and associated benefits to people, and where possible economic value, needs to also be documented when identifying, quantifying and valuing positive and negative impacts, over the life of FCERM options. To identify the application of existing evidence and indicator data metrics, we have applied the indicator data sources and metrics from the Natural Capital Asset and Risk Register (REPORT TWO), within the Green Book recommended 4-Step Natural Capital Assessment Template. We have also provided a review of available indicator metrics against quality and data confidence criteria for identifying the most robust indicator data for reporting impacts on natural capital and ecosystem service benefits.
