Abstract
The response of the Black Sea shelf zone to the effect of short-term (less than one day) winds in studied. Mathematical modeling is carried out numerically on the basis of the complete system of the equations of motion, with consideration of continuous fluid stratification, nonlinear terms and terms responsible for turbulent exchange. It is found that a quasi-stationary vertical circulation cell is formed on the shelf under the influence of wind forcing, which favors upwelling. The cell is characterized by a coastal upwelling and lowering of waters in the area of sharp depth increase. Quasi-inertial reciprocal horizontal oscillations (with periods from 17 to 24 h) are generated in the open sea, and slowly decay after the termination of wind action.
