Abstract
As the director of the MAGIC Lab, at Goldsmiths University of London, I oversee projects that combine psychological research methods with performance magic.For instance, we study misdirection and forcing tolearn more about consciousness and free will. We alsoseek to apply many of these principles to non-magicalcontexts. For example, we are currently exploring waysof implementing forcing principles in computergames, and we are even ‘teaching’ artificial agentsmagic deception, as part of a project to develop newcyber security technologies. By mixing magic trickswith science, we aim to uncover the secrets of the human mind (see Experiencing the Impossible [1]).
