dc.description.abstract

This thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is an introduction to the structure and properties of natural kaolinites. The second chapter describes the synthesis of kaolinite and a study of various reaction parameters and their effect on the morphology of synthetic kaolinites. Chapters 3 and 4 are devoted to Electron Spin Resonance in natural and doped synthetic kaolinites. Chapter 5 is a study of Fe²˖ and Fe³˖ in kaolinite by Mössbauer spectroscopy. The final chapter consists of a short summary and discussion with some suggestions for future work.
